This is an original mixed media painting by David John.
BELIEVE ME IT’S TRUE explores the fragile relationship between memory, truth, and perception. The things we experience are rarely remembered exactly as they happened. Over time, memories become layered with emotion and interpretation until the line between fact and feeling begins to blur.
Like all of my work, this piece was created without a predetermined plan. There were no sketches or fixed ideas. Instead, the painting developed instinctively, with each decision becoming a response to the one before it, allowing the composition to evolve naturally and find its own balance.
The intersecting geometric pathways create a framework that suggests order and certainty, while the energetic layers beneath tell a different story. Fragments of colour emerge and disappear throughout the painting, alongside handwritten marks that are only partially legible. Like distant memories or unfinished conversations, they offer glimpses of meaning without fully revealing themselves.
Ultimately, this painting is an invitation to pause and look closely. To follow the layers, uncover the details, and find your own connection. I don’t offer a fixed narrative or definitive meaning. Instead, I create a space where memories and personal interpretations can surface naturally, making each viewing a unique experience.
