To Sign or not to Sign:

Recently attended the Manchester Art Fair, saw some amazing artwork that was truly inspiring, and the event was so well run, had a good day.

I wanted to do some research, just to see what other artists are doing and to see how these art fairs run, as I want to exhibit this year.

What I was surprised at was approx 70% of paintings weren’t signed on the front, and about 10% of those that were signed, it wasn’t a great visual signature, so detracted from the artwork.

Something I never put a lot of thought into, just get a good signature then sign your work, that’s what I thought everyone did, but as it seems, no, not the case at all.

So, I’ve done some thinking and I think I’ve got a solution, not going to show it just yet until I’m happy it works, as it’s important and must blend in and be part of the painting, not just stuck in a corner, almost competing with the painting for attention.
